No Impact Week 2011: Day 1
Today the Dutch version of No Impact Week started, inspired by Colin Beavan, or No Impact Man. This guy (American, of course) reduced his and his family’s environmental impact to a minimum for one year, and learned along the way that he grew happier and healthier, saved money and gained creativity, time and better relationships.
Sounds pretty good, right? No Impact Week aims to get you this within just one week! The take away version of No Impact Man’s efforts. No, for real, it’s an experiment to test your everyday behavior and see what happens when you reduce them a little (or a lot).
Every day one challenge to reduce your ecological footprint is added. Today: no buying new stuff. To start the week off well I organized a clothes swap party. I got rid of some stuff that was gathering dust on my shelves - got a staggering amount of 14 new pieces of clothing - made some girls happy with free “new” clothes and an exuse to clean out their closets - and I get to donate the leftovers to charity. Feels pretty good to me, this no buying thing. And I’ll look fabulous this winter.
A new economic model for happiness
